Each week during the high school sports season, Eastern Maine Sports will announce a female and male athlete of the week. You can send your nominations during the week to Marc at easternmainesports@gmail.com. When you send your nominations include the athlete, name of the school, stats for the week of the nomination. Here is a full list of the past athlete of the week winners.
This week we had six Rowell’s Garage female athlete of the week nominations. Mia Coots dominated in the circle to lead Nokomis in a win over Lawrence. Coots joins Leah Edmondson (10-6-11), Noah Kershner (10-11-14), Chelsea Crockett (12-17-16), Alexys Dow (9-1-18), Donovan Kurt (10-25-2020), and Cooper Flagg (2) (2-4-22) as student/athletes that have earned athlete of the week honors
May 1st-May 7th
- Mia Coots- Nokomis- softball – pitched a one hitter allowing one unearned run while striking out 16 in 3-1 win over Lawrence.
Runner up
- Lane Barron- Bangor- softball- pitched a one hitter in 3-2 win over previously undefeated Skowhegan.
Other nominations
- Cassidy Ireland- Bangor- softball- went 3-3 in 3-2 win over Skowhegan.
- Jazmin Johnson- Lawrence softball- pitched a 2 hitter with 12 strikeouts in 12-0 win over Belfast.
- Julia Hagstrom- John Bapst- softball- had four hits, including two doubles in 16-6 win over MCI.
- Ana Lang- Searsport- pitched a three hitter, allowing two unearned runs, tripled and had two intentionally walks at the plate in 3-2 win over Mattanawcook. Struck out 18 with no walks in eight innings and singled, had three stolen bases and scored a run in 4-2 loss in extra innings against Bucksport.
