Kevin Durant to stay in Brooklyn, for now

August 23, 2022

In an announcement by the Brooklyn Nets on Tuesday, superstar forward Kevin Durant has recinded his trade request from earlier this summer and is moving forward and focusing on this upcoming season with Brooklyn.

Durant, who has four more years left on his current contract in Brooklyn, had requested a trade from the organization back on June 30. The Boston Celtics reportedly were in talks to acquire the 33 year old, and the Atlanta Hawks were also reported as making an offer. Durant had also said he was willing to stay only if General Manager Sean Marks and Head Coach Steve Nash were fired.

Marks issued a statement on Tuesday and said, “Steve Nash and I, together with Joe Tsai and Clara Wu Tsai, met with Kevin Durant and Rich Kleiman in Los Angeles on Monday. We have agreed to move forward with our partnership. We are focusing on basketball, with one collective goal in mind- build a lasting franchise to bring a championship to Brooklyn.”
