GUILFORD— After a slow start, first year Coach Davan Walker called a timeout. From that point on the Foxcroft Ponies controlled the game en route to a 3-0 victory over PCHS in a field hockey game played Friday afternoon at Piscataquis Community Secondary School.
Foxcroft put 10 shots on goal after not recording a shot in the first 15 minutes. The Ponies put five shots on goal in the second quarter, including one from Lauren Martin that went in to give Foxcroft a 1-0 lead with 7:24 remaining in the first half.
The third quarter was played pretty evenly with the Ponies out shooting the Pirates 5-3, Martin scored her second goal of the contest with 3:11 left in the third quarter. Hillary Howard recording the assist.
Martin and Howard was also the connection for the final goal of the game. Martin capped off the hat trick on a beautiful pass from Howard.
It was the first career coaching win for Walker. Laney McGary had two saves on six shots for the Ponies. Foxcroft (1-1) will play their home opener on Tuesday against Stearns.
Gabrielle Koscielny filled in as goalie with Addyson Beckwith out for the Pirates. Koscielny had four saves on 12 shots. PCHS (0-1) will host Mattanawcook on Tuesday.
