Penquis senior captain Abby Conlogue had three goals, including the game winner in overtime to lead the Patriots to a 4-3 overtime win over Piscataquis Community High School (PCHS) in a Class C girls soccer preliminary round game on Friday afternoon.
PCHS started the scoring off about 10 minutes into the game with a goal from Molly Sipple. Penquis was quick to answer that goal about three minutes later when Conlogue finished a goal into the net that had bobbled off of the PCHS keeper.
Penquis would take the lead with just over 12 minutes to go in the first half when Conlogue dribbled past several defenders and notched her second goal into the upper right hand corner of the net. PCHS tied the game at 2-2 with two minutes to go in the half when Abbey Ricker scored from the 6 yard line off of a deflection from the Penquis defense.
PCHS scored their only goal of the second half with just under 19 minutes to play in regulation when Molly Sipple scored her second goal of the day by beating the Penquis defense with the ball and placing the ball in the lower right corner of the net. Penquis was quick to tie the game back up at 3-3 less than 30 seconds later when Jessica Broussard scored from the 6 yard line off of a deflection from the PCHS defense.
The game remained at 3-3 through regulation play. This was the sixth overtime this season for Penquis and the only game that did not end in a tie. Broussard started the attack a minute into the overtime with a shot off of the corner post that rebounded back out to a shot from the wing that bounced off of the PCHS keeper and onto the foot of Conlogue into the back of the net.
Patriots keeper Brooklyn Decker had 13 saves on 16 shots. Seventh seeded Penquis (5-5-5) will play at undefeated and second seeded MCI on Tuesday, October 25th at 3 PM. Pirates keeper Lauren Robinson had 30 saves on 35 shots. PCHS finishes the season with a record of 6-8-1.
