November 4, 2022

DOVER-FOXCROFT- The Foxcroft Academy Ponies scored two touchdowns in the first 1:28 of the first quarter on Friday night, and never looked back in rolling to a 69-0 victory over the Madison Bulldogs at Oakes Field in a Class D high school football quarterfinal.

After Madison went three and out on offense to begin play, Cameron Chase put Foxcroft up 7-0 with a 10 yard touchdown run set up by a 40 yard pass from Wyatt Rayfield to Caden Crocker. Jadon Richard made it 14-0 just 20 seconds later, intercepting Bulldogs quarterback Brode Strout and returning it 35 yards for a score. Kemsley Marsters added a 35 yard run, Crocker a 40 yard punt return and a two yard reception, Richard a 14 yard run, and Silas Topolski a 40 yard reception that all went for touchdowns in the first quarter as the Ponies put up 48 points. Jacob Johnson and Justin Gibbs scored on five yard runs in the second, and the scoring was finished off when backup QB Griffin Caruso scored on a nine yard run in the third quarter.

Rayfield only played the first quarter and went 4-5 passing for 98 yards with three touchdowns and one interception. Caruso was 6-8 for 46 yards and the rushing TD. Crocker caught both passes thrown to him for 42 yards, with one receiving score and the punt return for six. Landon Smith was named the Bangor Savings Bank Player of the Game as he helped salt away the win with seven carries for 107 yards. Kholton Perry and Aidan Bryant both had three tackles for Foxcroft. Strout went 4-30 passing for 21 yards and two interceptions, while Noah Lattin made two receptions for 19 yards in the loss for Madison who ends their season at 1-8. The Bulldogs were held to negative 12 yards of total offense by a tough Ponies defense. Top seed FA is now 8-1 and will host #4 Winthrop/Monmouth/Hall Dale in the semifinals next Friday night with a trip to the state championship on the line (a game you can see live on YouTube via Eastern Maine Sports Media). The Ponies beat the Ramblers in the state title game last year, and 28-27 in overtime at Winthrop in the first game of this season.
