David Pastrnak scored a powerplay goal 3:19 into overtime on Friday afternoon, as the Boston Bruins set an NHL record for consecutive home wins to begin a season in a 3-2 comeback victory over the Carolina Hurricanes at TD Garden.
Carolina (10-6-5) had taken a 2-0 lead on a pair of powerplay goals from Stefan Noesen and Jesperi Kotkaniemi in the first period. Boston began the rally when David Krejci scored at 19:29 of the second to cut it to 2-1. Krejci tallied again at the 10:27 mark of the third period, his eighth of the season to tie it. The goal was originally waved off for goaltender interference on Nick Foligno, but after review it was determined there was no interference and the game would eventually go to overtime. In the extra session and with the extra man, Brad Marchand skated across the high slot and sent a pass to Pastrnak who one-timed it from the left faceoff circle glove side on Hurricanes goalie Pyotr Kochetkov to end it.
Krejci had the two goals, Pastrnak had a goal and an assist, and Pavel Zacha had two assists in the win. Linus Ullmark made 11 saves before leaving with an undisclosed injury in the third period. Jeremy Swayman stopped all six shots he faced in relief. Kochetkov made 38 saves in the loss, as Boston outshot Carolina 41-19. The Bruins have won all 12 of their home games so far this season, breaking an 11 game record set by the 1963-64 Chicago Blackhawks and equaled by the Florida Panthers last year. Boston is now 18-3-0 and will return to action on Tuesday when they go for 13 straight by hosting the Tampa Bay Lightning.
