The Husson University men’s and women’s basketball teams stayed unbeaten so far in North Atlantic Conference play by finishing off a weekend sweep with wins over SUNY-Cobleskill at Newman Gymnasium in Bangor Saturday afternoon.
In the women’s game- Husson raced out to a 14 point first quarter lead and never trailed in a 75-61 win over Cobleskill in sending the Tigers to their first conference loss on the season. Bailey Donovan led the way in the win for the Eagles by filling up the stat sheet with 16 points, 13 rebounds, four assists, three steals, and two blocked shots. Vanessa Duarte added 13 points and six assists. Hannah Richards and Lauren Cook chipped in eight points a piece. Hannah Cater had 13 points and seven rebounds for Cobleskill, while Taylor Meachem and Jordan Finch contributed 10 points a piece. The Tigers are now 8-7, 4-1 in the NAC. Husson had beaten SUNY-Delhi Friday night 97-27 to begin the weekend behind a 16 point effort by Richards.
In the men’s game- After allowing the opening basket of the game, Husson exploded with a 40-9 run and built a 29 point first half lead in also sending the men’s team from SUNY-Cobleskill to their first loss in conference play 74-55. Justice Kendall had a game high 18 points and three assists in the win. Jeremy Moronta also got into double figures with 12 points and six rebounds. DJ Woods would chip in nine points, and Eric Ahlers along with Scott Lewis had six a piece. Justin Feldman was the only double digit scorer for Cobleskill with 11 points and six rebounds. The Tigers fall to 12-3, 4-1 in the NAC. Husson had beaten SUNY-Delhi Friday night 85-78 behind 25 points from Kendall.
The Husson women’s team improves to 9-4 on the season, the men are 5-8 with both teams also at 3-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. Both teams are on the road in conference play for the first time next Friday night and Saturday afternoon with a New York trip to SUNY-Poly and Cazenovia College.
