BANGOR- After a slow start, the Hodgdon Hawks went on a first half run and would pull away from the Central Aroostook Panthers for a 47-20 Maine Principals’ Association Class C girls quarterfinal win at the Cross Insurance Center on Monday afternoon.
Central Aroostook, the #11 seed who got to Bangor by upsetting #6 Calais in the prelims, had an early 4-2 lead. Hodgdon took over after that, ending the first quarter on a 7-0 run and then continuing that run in the second by outscoring the Panthers 17-5 for a 26-9 halftime advantage helped by eight first half points by Anna Oliver. The Hawks began the third quarter on a 12-1 spurt to take a 28 point lead and would lead by as many as 34 to advance to a semifinal game on Thursday afternoon against the winner of PVHS/Sumner.
Aleyah Matheson had 13 points and seven rebounds to lead the way for #3 seed and 18-1 Hodgdon. Oliver finished with 10 points, Sadie Thompson had nine, and Meghan Peters along with Lexi Rackliff had six points a piece. Also scoring for the Hawks was Marissa Dow with two points and Sydney Harvey had a free throw for one point. Kira Fitzherbert had nine points and six rebounds for Central Aroostook in the loss. Rylee Pierce added four points, while Abby Haines, Izabel Pryor, and Ira Fletcher each had two points. Harleigh Allen also added a free throw for one point, and chipped in eight rebounds as the Panthers end their season at 11-9.
