BANGOR- The Orono Red Riots led from start to finish and used a tough defensive effort on Wednesday afternoon, advancing to the Class B Northern Maine boys championship game by defeating the Presque Isle Wildcats 42-31 at the Cross Insurance Center in a Maine Principals’ Association Class B semifinal.
Will Francis would help lead Orono scoring behind 15 of his 20 points in the second half. He also added five rebounds and five assists. Pierce Walston would also have nine points for the Red Riots, who improve to 17-3 and advance to the regional title game on Saturday at 3:45 p.m. against Ellsworth. Presque Isle would be led by Malachi Cummings who had 15 points to go along with seven rebounds and two steals. Jack Buck would score six points, haul in eight rebounds, and blocked two shots. The #7 seeded Wildcats has their season end with a 11-9 record.
