BANGOR- The Southern Aroostook Warriors put eight players in the scorebook on Wednesday night led by a 20 point effort by Maddy Russell, and rolled to a 55-26 Maine Principals’ Association Class D girls semifinal win over the Deer Isle-Stonington Mariners at the Cross Insurance Center.
A slow start by top seeded Southern Aroostook saw Deer Isle-Stonington take a pair of early one point leads. The Warriors took control after that with an 8-0 run on a three-pointer by Ally Shields, a Maddy Russell three point play, and a steal and layup by Cami Shields and wouldn’t trail again. Six points by Cami Shields and Maddy Russell in the period pushed it out to a 39-17 lead at halftime. A 7-0 spurt by the Warriors to start the third quarter put them up 29, and the lead eventually went to 31 as they cruised to another regional final appearance. Southern Aroostook (17-3) will meet undefeated Wisdom (20-0) in that regional final on Saturday at 9 a.m.
