BANGOR- The Calais Blue Devils put eight players in the scorebook on Saturday night, and built a 27 point halftime lead in rolling to an 80-49 win over Fort Kent in a Maine Principals’ Association Class C Boys North Regional Championship game played at the Cross Insurance Center.
Jace Cook hit a three-pointer right after the opening tip to start the game, and Calais scored the first nine points. Cook scored seven in the first quarter and Jeremy Turner had six points as they led 19-5 after the first eight minutes. The Blue Devils turned it up even more in the second, outscoring Fort Kent 20-7 to make it 39-12 at the halftime break. They would cruise to the win by scoring another 41 points in the second half, and led several times by as many as 33. The #2 Warriors only got as close as 22 in the final 16 minutes of play.
Keegan Cyr led Fort Kent in the loss with 16 points. Ethan Daigle, who had a great tournament with 18 points in both the quarterfinal and semifinal round, would finish with 10 points and five rebounds. Also scoring for the Warriors was Lance Gagnon with seven points and six rebounds, Tyler Ryder with five points, Ethan Raymond, Will Morneault, and Tobias Naranja had three points a piece, and Bruce Valcourt contributed two points as they end their season with a record of 16-5.
Cook led Calais with 20 points. Turner had 14 points and five rebounds, Jacob Sockabasin had a double double with 12 points and 12 rebounds, and Evan Gillespie had 12 points and eight rebounds. Also in the scorebook for the Blue Devils was Kaden Small with nine points, Alex Richard with seven, Matt Dana with four, and Kaeson Dana chipped in two points. #1 Calais is now 18-3, winning their ninth Class C Regional Title and first since 2015. The Blue Devils will face defending state champion Dirigo in the state championship game next Saturday night, March 4th at 8:45 p.m. at the Cross Insurance Center in Bangor.
