Houlton Track and Field Team Claims Impressive Results at Bangor Meet

BANGOR, ME – The Houlton Track and Field team competed in their first regular season meet of the year hosted by Bangor High School at the new Cameron Stadium, with impressive results to show for their efforts.

Despite only having seven team members, the Girls claimed an outstanding 3rd place out of 11 schools in attendance, narrowly missing 2nd place by just 8 points.The team’s performance was a testament to their hard work and dedication, and highlights the talent and potential of Houlton/GHCA’s student-athletes.

Event wins went to the girl’s 4x800m team composed of Teanne Ewings, Natalie Johnson and sisters Andrea and Leanne Ross. Their time was the 5th fastest by a 4×8 team in the state this weekend and the 1st overall in Class C. Ewings would go on for the clean sweep in the distance events as she took home 1st in the 800, 1600, and 3200m races, her 8 and 16 times were the fastest by a high school girl in the state this weekend, with her 32 being 2nd in the state.  Johnson would add in 2nd place points for the 1600 and 3200 and 3rd place for the 800, she too would find her way into the state top 10 at 5th for her 3200m performance. Full team scores were 1) Bangor 235, 2) MDI 94, 3) Houlton/GHCA 84, 4) John Bapst 47, 5) Central 34, 6) WA 30, 7) Narraguagus 15, 8) Fort Fairfield 2, 9) Jonesport Beals 1, NS- MSSM, Searsport.

In the Boys meet we saw freshman James Brady rising up in his first ever varsity meet to score 8 points, 6 from his 3rd place in the 3200m and 2 from 5th in the 1600. He also had top ten finishes in the Javelin (8th) and 800m (10th). Also grabbing top ten places but falling just shy of scoring positions were Landon Lafferriere’s 400m (10th) and Gavin Wright in Shot Put (9th). Several new personal bests were set by the boys today, and Ethan Casale managed to hit new PR’s in each of his events. “The team’s performance was truly remarkable, and we couldn’t be more proud of their efforts,” said Coach Rines. “We are excited to see how our student-athletes continue to develop and compete throughout the season. Bangor has a really nice brand new facility here at Cameron Stadium and we are looking forward to coming back next week.”

The Houlton Track and Field team will look to build on their impressive performance as they continue their regular season schedule. They will be back at Cameron Stadium next Saturday, April 29, and then spend the next three weeks after that in the county with two Caribou meets and the Aroostook League Championship in Presque Isle.
