Bangor Christian would blow a 4-0 lead on Friday afternoon, but would survive to stay unbeaten getting a walkoff wild pitch in the ninth inning to beat Machias 5-4 in a Class D North baseball game played in Bangor.
Jason Libby would get his first start on the mound since his historic 22 strikeout, no-hit performance. Things were looking good for Libby as the Patriots had a 4-0 lead after five innings. Machias would pull within 4-2 when they got two unearned runs in the sixth. Bangor Christian would bring Cole Payne in to pitch the seventh and earn the save, but he ran into trouble when he walked the first two batters he faced forcing Libby back into the game. Libby struckout the first two batters before they decided to walk Kason Ferguson intentionally to load the bases. The next hitter Ethan Libby hit a grounder to Conrad Straubel at third base. Straubels throw though was wild to first allowing two runs to score to make it 4-4 to send it to extra innings. Pinch runner Isaiah Jackson would be the one that scored on the wild pitch in the bottom of the ninth to improve BCS to 9-0.
Jason Libby finished with 18 strikeouts in 6.2 innings and didn’t allow an earned run, while also walking his first batters of the season. Bangor Christian plays again on Saturday at Shead. Machias falls to 6-4, and will next play Wednesday at Woodland.
