In a game rescheduled to Monday afternoon due to rain and thunderstorms on Saturday, the Katahdin Cougars scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to walkoff on Madawaska 6-5 in a Class D baseball semifinal played at Katahdin.
Katahdin (15-1) led the entire game until the top of the seventh inning. Madawaska rallied to take a 5-4 advantage on an RBI single by Sam Defresne and an RBI triple by Carsen Cyr. The Cougars won it though in their last at bat as Kyle McNally, Josh Martin, and Jeff Martin all singled to load the bases. Wesley Pipes walked it off with a two-run single to send top seeded Katahdin into the Class D Northern Maine Final against #2 Bangor Christian on Wednesday afternoon.
McNally had three hits to lead Katahdin and also stole two bases. Josh Martin struckout nine on the mound after relieving Pipes in the third inning. Cyr had three hits and three RBI to lead the #5 Madawaska Owls, who end their season at 13-4. The Cougars and Bangor Christian Patriots battle for the Northern Maine crown at 3 p.m. Wednesday at Mansfield Stadium in Bangor.
