Trenton Acadians fall in their opening game of the American Legion World Series

The defending champions from Troy, Alabama broke the game open on Thursday evening with an eight run fifth inning and rolled to a 13-3 win over the Trenton Acadians in the Senior American Legion Baseball World Series in Shelby, North Carolina.

Troy opened the scoring in the top of the fourth inning on a two-run homerun by Drew Shiver to rightfield. They would put it away in the fifth with that eight run frame that including four bases loaded walks, a passed ball, and a two-run single by Christian Hill. Trenton, the Northeast Regional Champs, surrendered 15 walks in the loss. Hunter Curtis had a two-run homer and Joey Clause had a sacrifice fly for an RBI. Hunter Curtis, David Baugh, Dawson Curtis, AJ Lozano, and Clause each had one hit. Craig Burnett suffered the defeat on the mound giving up six runs on five hits with seven walks and two strikeouts in 4.1 innings. Hill went 4-4 at the plate in the victory for Troy, and Brody Lindsey gave up three runs on five hits over 4.1 innings. The Acadians, who are now 0-1 in the Stars Division, is back at it on Friday at 4 p.m. when they face Cheyenne, Wyoming. The top two teams in each four team division advance to the semifinals on Monday.
