Husson women’s soccer falls at home, men tie on the road

At Boucher Field in Bangor- Pepper Joseph scored directly off a corner kick in the 22nd minute of play, in leading Colby College to a 1-0 win over Husson University in a non-conference women’s soccer match Wednesday evening. The Mules held the Eagles to no shots on goal, and had a 24-4 edge in shots attempted. Colby (1-0) also had nine corner kick opportunities to none for Husson. Madison Weigler made four saves in net in the defeat. MK Marshall, Talia Thompson, and Emily McMaster played in goal for the guests. Husson (1-2) returns to action on Sunday at 3 p.m. when they play host to Bates College.

At John Coughlin Field in Worcester, Massachusetts- Hugo Llopiz scored a late first half goal, answering an early tally by Wilber Garcia as the Husson men’s soccer team battled to a 1-1 non-conference tie at Worcester State University Wednesday evening. The Garcia goal for the Lancers was unassisted at the 9:04 point of the contest, before Llopiz answered off an assist from Mario Alvarez with 1:14 left in the first half. The two teams were about even in shots, as Worcester (0-0-2) had 14 attempts and Husson had 13 but both had six on goal. Alex Rechsteiner had five saves in net for the Eagles, while Andy Ramirez and Tobias Schneider combined for five for WSU. Husson (1-0-2) plays again Sunday at noon when they travel to Brunswick to take on nationally ranked #6 Bowdoin College.
