Eliminated from any playoff contention, the Double A Portland Sea Dogs will finish their 2023 season with a six game series against the Hartford Yard Goats beginning Tuesday night at Hadlock Field.
Portland, who is 30-32 in the second half (70-61 overall), enter the Eastern League final week in third place in the North Division 6.5 games behind the first place Somerset Patriots (NY Yankees). Because Somerset captured the North Division first half of the season to automatically qualify for the playoffs, the second place Binghamton Rumble Ponies (NY Mets) were given the second half crown to also qualify for postseason play.
Portland have gotten some great contributions over the course of the year, some that rank high in the statistical categories of the Eastern League. Corey Rosier (second) and Nick Yorke (fourth) are both in the top five in batting average at .285 and .275 respectively. Yorke is second in total hits (116), and tied for third in doubles (25). Rosier leads the league in triples (6). On the pitching side, Chih-Jung Liu is tied for first with one shutout, and third in strikeouts (142). Luis Guerrero is first overall in saves with 18.
