Maine women’s soccer blanks Albany to set program history

The University of Maine women’s soccer team got goals from three different players on Sunday, and broke a program record with a 3-0 victory over the University of Albany in America East action on Bob Ford Field at Tom and Mary Casey Stadium in Albany, New York. The Black Bears are now unbeaten in their first 10 games of the season, besting the 2006 club who went unbeaten in their first nine contests (8-0-1).

Luise Reinwald scored in the 11th minute of the first half off an assist by Abby Kraemer that turned out to be the game winner, for a 1-0 lead for Maine that they carried into halftime. The Black Bears put it away in a 5:41 span of the second half when Abby Kraemer tallied off an assist from Kristina Kelly at the 59:51 mark, and then at 65:32 her sister Kayla Kraemer finished the scoring unassisted.

Abby Kraemer had a goal and an assist for Maine, who improves to 7-0-3 and 2-0-0 in America East. She now has nine goals on the season to lead the attack. Kira Kutzinski stopped all six shots she faced in net for her third shutout on the year. Megan Hart had four saves in the loss for Albany, as the Great Danes drop to 3-5-1 and 0-1-1 in conference play. Maine is back home next Sunday at noon when they take on the University of Maryland-Baltimore County.
