The Husson Eagles men’s and women’s soccer teams visited Maine Maritime Academy on Tuesday and Wednesday night respectively, opening up North Atlantic Conference play.
At Ritchie Field in Castine Tuesday night- Alexander Bryant scored his first goal of the season at the 31 minute mark of the first half for the lone tally, as Husson men’s soccer defeated MMA 1-0. Miguel Morales assisted on the game winner, and Alex Rechsteiner had two saves in net for his third shutout of the season. The Eagles have won four games in a row, improving to 5-2-3 (1-0 NAC) and will host Vermont State University Lyndon on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. The Mariners dropped to 4-4-1, 1-1-0 in conference action.
At Ritchie Field on Wednesday night- In another defensive battle, Charlotte Messer scored in the 30th minute of the first half to give the visiting Husson women’s soccer team their fourth straight win as well with a 1-0 victory over MMA. The tally by Messer was unassisted and her second goal of the season. The Eagles dominated shots on goal 15-2, with Madison Weigler getting her second shutout of the year. Husson is now 5-3 (1-0 NAC), while the Mariners lost for just the second time falling to 7-2-1 and 1-1-0 in conference play. The Eagles return home for more conference action Saturday when they take on Vermont State University Lyndon at 1 p.m.
