The University of Maine women’s soccer team had their program best 12 game unbeaten streak snapped on Thursday night, falling to UMass-Lowell 2-0 in America East action at Cushing Field in Lowell, Massachusetts.
UMass-Lowell carried play throughout the first half with a 5-1 shots on goal advantage, but Black Bears keeper Kira Kutzinski came up with some key saves to keep it scoreless at the break. The Riverhawks (2-6-5, 2-2-1 America East) finally broke through in the 57th minute, getting the eventual game winner by Laura Cetina that was assisted by Emma Mitchell. Chloe Layne added some insurance off a cross by Calliste Brookshire in the 78th minute.
Kutzinski made four saves in the loss for Maine, who falls to 8-1-4 and 3-1-1 in conference play. Laura Kirkby had two of the four shots on net in the defeat. Taylor Burgess made four stops in the win for UMass-Lowell, as the Riverhawks broke a three game winless streak. The Black Bears return home on Sunday to take on Bryant for Senior Day at 1 p.m.
