UNH dominates Maine in shutout field hockey win

The University of New Hampshire held Maine to just one shot on goal, and Tasmin Cookman had a hat trick as the Wildcats scored four times in the third quarter on Friday afternoon in rolling to a 6-0 America East Field Hockey win at Memorial Field in Durham, New Hampshire.

A defensive battle in the first half saw UNH (10-4, 6-0 America East) with the better chances, but the game would be scoreless at the halftime break. The Wildcats turned it on in the second 30 minutes of play, beginning with the third quarter where they would score four times on five shots on net. Tamera Cookman had the first goal and eventual game winner 1:57 into the third, with her sister Tasmin Cookman tallying her first of the match 3:08 later. Tasmin got her second and Nicole Poulakis rounded out the scoring in the period. Tasmin Cookman capped off her hat trick with 3:30 left to play, and Lindsay Lee also found the net to keep UNH unbeaten in conference action.

Mallory Drayer stopped five shots in net in the loss for Maine, who falls to 6-8 and 3-3 in America East. Poppy Lambert had the lone shot on goal, as the Black Bears were outshot 12-1 (9-0 in second half). Tasmin Cookman (three goals, one assist), and Tamera Cookman (one goal, three assists) both registered four points in the win for UNH. Jemma Woods had one save for her second shutout of the season. Maine returns home to play Fairfield University in a non-conference matchup as part of homecoming on Sunday at 12 p.m.
