The North Atlantic Conference released their preseason men’s and women’s basketball coaches poll on Tuesday. The Husson men were picked first in the NAC East Division, while the women’s team was tabbed second.
The Husson Eagles men’s team is coming off a 13-13 season in 2022-23 (11-3 NAC East Division), and a 97-87 loss in the conference semifinals to the University of Maine-Presque Isle. They return graduate guards Derek Collin and Luke Caruso, along with senior guard Jeremy Moronta, senior center Jared Balser, and senior forward Scott Lewis. Newcomers include freshman forward Will Kusnierz out of the Dexter Regional High School. They are led by head coach Warren Caruso who enters his 30th season at the helm. The Husson women’s team is coming off a 20-7 campaign in 2022-23 (13-1 NAC East Division), falling to 52-49 to Maine Maritime Academy in the East Division Final. The Mariners, the reigning overall conference champion, is picked to finish first in the division in 2023-24. Husson returns All-Conference graduate center Bailey Donovan, senior guards Trinity Montigny and Makaelyn Porter, and junior guards Lauren Cook, Hannah Richards, and Sophia McVicar. The newcomers include guards Sofia Torres-Reyes and Danielle Dow (MCI), and forwards Elizabeth Wyman (Schenck High School) and Callaway Lepage (Skowhegan High School). The Eagles, who are led by head coach Kissy Walker who begins her 33rd season as the bench boss, begin this new season this Saturday at 4 p.m. in a tournament in Northampton, Massachusetts against Rowan University.
