Freshman forward Haley Ryan had a natural hat trick in the second period on Saturday afternoon, in leading the Maine Black Bears to a 6-3 win over Dartmouth College in non-conference women’s hockey action in a game played at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
After a scoreless first period, Ryan started her scoring binge by tallying shorthanded at 4:30 of the second. She would finish her hat trick by scoring at 13:07 and 13:53. Alyssa Wruble had the fourth goal of the stanza for Maine at 19:44, with a beautiful shot just inside the far post. The Big Green did get on the board three times in the third period on goals by Laura Fuoco, Meredith Jensen, and Mia Buonarosa. The Black Bears wrapped up their fifth consecutive win on empty net goals by Mira Seregely and Ann-Fredrique Guay.
Cora Webber, Courtney Colarullo, Abby Latorella, Ava Stevenson, and Ida Kuoppala each had an assist to go along with the three goals by Ryan in the Maine win. Jordan Mattison made 31 saves in net. Eleanor Rogers stopped 31 shots in the loss for Dartmouth out of the ECAC. Caroline Appleyard had two assists, as the Big Green fall to 3-12-1. Maine who is now 9-8, is off until Friday, December 29 when they head to Pennsylvania to play in the Battle of the Burgh Tournament hosted by Robert Morris University. The Black Bears will take on nationally ranked #4 Colgate in the first round on 12/29 at 4 p.m.
