BUCKSPORT- The Bucksport Golden Bucks held the Searsport Vikings to six first half points to build a comfortable lead, and put eight players in the scoring column on Monday afternoon to pick up a 46-22 Class C girls basketball win at Jewett Gymnasium.
Bucksport (7-3) scored the first 12 points of the game, getting eight out of those from Jetta Shook to take control early. Addison Goss scored six points in the second quarter, as the Bucks built their advantage to 19-6 at halftime. Goss also played terrific defense all afternoon long on Searsports best player, 6 foot 4 forward Julianna Sprague. Goss held her to just four points in the first half. The hosts put the game away over the third and fourth quarter outscoring the Vikings 27-16, as Makayla Miller also came off the bench to score all nine of her points over the final 16 minutes.
Shook led the way in the win for Bucksport out of Class C North with 15 points and 12 rebounds. Goss and Miller (two 3-pointers) each had nine points, with Goss adding two blocks. Sam Cyr and Lacey Bailey put in four points a piece, Kaitlyn Flannery and Mercedes Taungatu’a had two each, and Aivah Tweedie contributed a free throw for one point. The Bucks won the rebounding battle 32-24 and shot 6-18 from the free throw line. Sprague finished with 11 points, eight rebounds, and five blocks in the loss for Searsport (4-6) who plays out of Class C South. Emily Mello contributed six points and 11 rebounds. Also chipping in for the Vikings was Willow Law with three points and River Seekins with two points. They shot 6-12 from the charity stripe. Bucksport returns to action at home on Monday against PCHS, while Searsport will play at Sumner on Wednesday.
