UMaine news- Fitzpatrick let go as softball coach, Simon inks pro basketball deal

The University of Maine announced a leadership change on Friday with the softball program as Jordan Fitzpatrick will not be returning as head coach effective immediately. Earlier this week in other news, standout Black Bear graduating guard Anne Simon has inked a professional women’s basketball contract in Italy.

Fitzpatrick was named Maine softball coach on August 18, 2021 after serving six years on the staff as an assistant. Fitzpatrick is a former Black Bear softball player, having appeared in 55 games from 2007-2010. As head coach, she finishes with an overall record of 29-119 (.195 win percentage) and 9-49 in America East play (.155%). Maine went 4-6 in postseason conference games under Fitzpatrick. Simon, who finished her career in fifth place on the Maine all-time scoring list (1,982 points), has signed on to play with San Martino di Lupari in the Italian Serie A1 league. She joins 10 other former Black Bears who are currently playing in Europe. Here is the press release-
