The #11 Maine Black Bears scored four second period goals on Saturday afternoon, and blanked visiting Army 5-0 at the Alfond Arena in Orono in a men’s hockey exhibition game.
Maine got a first period goal from Oskar Komarov, and then second period tallies from Taylor Makar, Sully Scholle, Anthony Calafiore, and Owen Fowler. Albin Boija played the first 40 minutes in net making five saves, while Patrick Berzins stopped all three shots he faced in the third period. The Black Bears had an 86-20 advantage in shots attempted (43-8 on goal). Jacob Biron, JJ Cataldo, and Gus Holt combined for 38 saves for the Black Knights out of the Atlantic Hockey Conference.
Despite Saturday’s game just being an exhibition, Maine has not allowed a goal in their first 120 minutes of action on the ice. The Black Bears will host #8 Quinnipiac next Friday and Saturday on homecoming weekend. Friday is a 7 p.m. start, while Saturday the puck drops at 7:30.
