Abby Kraemer early second half goal lifts Maine women’s soccer over Albany for eighth straight win

Abby Kraemer scored 10 minutes into the second half on Sunday afternoon, in leading the University of Maine to a 1-0 win over the Albany Great Danes in America East women’s soccer action at Mahaney Diamond in Orono. The victory is the eighth straight for the Black Bears, while also staying unbeaten in conference play.

Maine controlled play throughout, finishing with a 31-6 edge on shots attempted (13-2 on goal) and 15-1 in corner kick opportunities. Albany goaltender Emily Dorfman though was able to keep the Black Bears off the board in the first half. The game winner was set up by Rebecca Grisdale in the 55th minute. Grisdale sent one towards the box that Kraemer got her head on and directed it past Dorfman.

Jessica Kasacek made two saves in the win for Maine. The graduate transfer (West Virginia) now has five shutouts on the season. Luise Reinwald also had an assist on the Kraemer goal. Dorfman made 12 saves in the defeat for Albany, who falls to 3-11-1 and 2-4-1 in America East. Maine improves to 10-1-2 and 6-0 in the conference and will return to action next Sunday when they host NJIT on Senior Day at 1 p.m.
