The Husson Eagles baseball team opened up their home league schedule on Friday by scoring 35 runs and pounding out 32 hits, in sweeping a North Atlantic Conference doubleheader over the University of Maine-Presque Isle 16-0 and 19-1 at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.
The Eagles had 12 players record at least one hit in the first game, while 11 players did the same in game two to complete the sweep. Akira Warren (Hall-Dale High School) hit a grandslam in game one, while Matt Holmes (Bangor) and Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth) drove in two runs each. Four pitchers combined on a four-hit shutout on the mound, with Ryan Penney (Thornton Academy) earning the win to go to 1-0. In game two, Husson broke it open with nine runs in the third inning. Ryan Bousquet had four hits and two RBI and Holmes hit a three-run homer. Warren, Tanner Evans (Old Town), and Tyler Michaud also drove in two runs each. The pitching staff fired another four-hitter allowing just one run, with Michael Skowrwon (1-0) claiming the victory.
Husson is now 10-9 and 4-0 in the NAC, while UMPI falls to 4-8 and 1-5. The teams cap off the four game series with a doubleheader on Saturday beginning at 11 a.m.
