For just the second time in franchise history, the Maine Mariners (ECHL affiliate of the Boston Bruins), will miss the Kelly Cup Playoffs in 2024-25.
Maine began play as the New Rangers affiliate in the 2018-19 season and went 37-32-2, finishing sixth in the North and missing the postseason. The Mariners played 62 of 72 regular season games in 2019-20, before voluntarily suspending their operations through the 2020-21 campaign due to the COVID 19 pandemic. On June 30, 2021 the team announced their new NHL affiliation with the Boston Bruins and the Providence Bruins of the AHL beginning with the 2021-22 season. Maine then went 33-31-5, 42-27-2, and 32-32-8 in making the Kelly Cup Playoffs the next three years but all ended in defeats to the Reading Royals.
The Mariners are 30-34-4 this season and will play their final four games all this week with a home contest against Trois-Rivieres on Wednesday night, two road games at Adirondack, before hosting Adirondack in the finale at 3 p.m. on Sunday at the Cross Insurance Arena in Portland.
