The Maine softball team ended their 11 game losing streak on Tuesday, splitting a non-conference doubleheader at Stonehill College in North Easton, Massachusetts. The Black Bears took game one 11-9, before dropping the second game 7-6.
In game one, the Skyhawks got off an 8-0 lead after two innings before the Black Bears rallied back. Maine scored six times in the third inning helped by a three-run homerun by Gabby Papushka. Papushka hit a solo shot in the fourth, before Abby Rhee tied it with an RBI groundout in the fifth. After Stonehill jumped back on top 9-8, Keira Inman provided the game-winning two-run homer in the sixth inning. Papushka drove in her fifth run of the contest in the seventh with a single. Papushka, Inman, and Francesca Guerrera all had three hits. Alysen Rieth (4-14) pitched 2.2 innings of scoreless relief to get the win in the circle.
In game two, May Dawes had a game winning RBI single in the fourth inning as the Skyhawks salvaged the doubleheader split. Kyra Haba-Dailey led the Black Bears with three hits while Guerrera, Rhee, Papushka, and Bailey Snowberger each added two. Madison Hand drove in two runs, and Ava Zettlemoyer (0-2) took the pitching loss giving up four runs on six hits in 2.1 innings.
Maine is now 7-27 overall, and will take their 0-9 America East record into a three game conference series at Binghamton this weekend with a doubleheader on Friday and a single game on Saturday.
