Husson baseball sweeps VTSU Lyndon

BANGOR- The Husson baseball team remained perfect in the North Atlantic Conference on Monday, sweeping a doubleheader over Vermont State University Lyndon 9-3 and 13-0 at the Winkin Complex.

In game one (9 innings)- VTSU Lyndon got off to a 1-0 lead on a leadoff solo homerun by Evan Duncan, but Husson took over from there. The Eagles scored three times in the bottom of the first inning, while Matt Holmes (Bangor High) provided a game winning RBI sacrifice fly in the second. Jackson Curtis (Ellsworth) had three hits, while Holmes and Hunter Curtis (Ellsworth) added two hits each. Hunter Curtis drove in three runs and Holmes contributed two RBI. Connor Abood (2-3) picked up the pitching win allowing three runs on eight hits with one walk and seven strikeouts in 6.2 innings.

In game two (7 innings)- Akira Warren had three hits and four RBI, and Husson scored six times in the fifth inning to pull away and complete the sweep. Tanner Evans (Old Town) had two hits and an RBI, while Holmes and Jackson Curtis continued their hot season with both driving in two more runs. Holmes hit a two-run homerun to right centerfield to get the scoring started in the third inning. Ben Phillips (2-0) pitched 2.0 innings to get the victory on the mound. The two RBI by Jackson Curtis broke the all-time program record for runs driven in with 161, breaking the previous mark of 160 held by Justin Spencer (2003-2006). He also moved into fifth place all-time on the total hits list.

Husson is on a seven game win streak improving to 15-9 and 8-0 in the North Atlantic Conference. The Eagles will host another league doubleheader on Tuesday against SUNY Cobleskill beginning at 11 a.m. The Fighting Tigers who play out of the NAC West Division are also unbeaten in conference play at 6-0.
