Some of the outgoing University of Maine hockey players, who were instrumental in helping to lead the Black Bears to their first Hockey East Title in 21 years and a return trip to the NCAA Tournament this past season, are trying to find success at the professional level.
Lynden Breen scored a goal on back to back nights on April 11th and April 12th for the South Carolina Stingrays (Washington Capitals) out of the ECHL. South Carolina had the best record in the league in the regular season at 52-15-5, and Breen (also two assists in five games played) has made the playoff roster as his current team will take on the Orlando Solarbears in the first round. The Stingrays have won 17 of their last 18 games. The native of Saint John, New Brunswick has a one-year contract with the Hershey Bears out of the AHL beginning with the 2025-26 season.
Nolan Renwick has also tallied two goals in back to back nights on April 12th and 13th for the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins in four games played at the American Hockey League level. The Penguins (39-22-7) have already clinched a spot in the Calder Cup Playoffs with three games remaining, currently in third place in the Atlantic Division. His former teammate in defenseman David Breazeale also signed with Wilkes-Barre on a two-year, one-way deal beginning in 2025-26. Breazeale also is on an amateur tryout offer (ATO) for the remainder of this season, but has not appeared in a game yet.
Ross Mitton also found the back of the net this past weekend in his first game for the Bridgeport Islanders, who also play out of the Atlantic Division of the AHL. The Islanders (15-48-4) will not qualify for the postseason.
Taylor Makar is with the Colorado Eagles, the top AHL affiliate of the Colorado Avalanche. Makar hasn’t been on the scoresheet as of yet in three games played. The Eagles (42-19-5) have also clinched a postseason spot, currently in first place in the Pacific Division. Makar is also on an ATO for the remainder of this season, and is signed with the organization through the 2025-26 campaign.
Harrison Scott is also scoreless through five games played with the Texas Stars, the top AHL affiliate of the Dallas Stars. Scott is there on an ATO, but is signed with the organization also through the 2025-26 season. Texas is in second place in the Central Division, having already clinched a postseason spot.
