UMF picks up first two conference wins with doubleheader softball sweep over UMPI

At Farmington on Saturday, the University of Maine-Farmington picked up their first two North Atlantic Conference wins by sweeping a softball doubleheader over UMPI 8-0 and 23-1 both by mercy rule in five innings.

Jessica Dow (Thornton Academy) helped to spark the UMF offense in game one with two RBI, while Abby Wrinn and Olivia Paradis (Thornton Academy) had a pair of hits. Carleigh Schievink (1-0) allowed five hits walked one and struckout six and got the win in the circle in pitching all 5.0 innings.

Wrinn had four hits and seven RBI, and Katie Morse (Dirigo) had three hits and four runs driven in to complete the sweep for the Beavers in game two. Dow and Taylor Truman (Monmouth) also had two hits and two RBI each, while Bella Miller (Lewiston) also contributed two RBI. Lisa Truchin (2-1) also went the entire 5.0 innings to get the pitching win giving up one run on six hits with no walks and four strikeouts. Megan Bucholz provided the only RBI on the day for UMPI, as the Owls fall to 2-17 and 1-3 in the NAC. UMF improves to 9-11 and 2-2 in conference play.
