Kevin Murray hit a solo homerun in the 10th inning Monday night, as Bowdoin College beat Husson 4-3 in a non-conference baseball matchup at the Winkin Complex in Bangor. The loss snaps a nine game Eagles win streak.
The Polar Bears led 3-1 into the bottom of the eighth inning, holding the Eagles to just two hits before Husson rallied back. Akira Warren (Hall-Dale) singled to lead off the frame, and with two outs Warren stole second base and came across to score on a Matt Holmes (Bangor) single. Holmes then stole second and third, and would score to tie it 3-3 when pinch hitter Henry Lausier (Thornton Academy) hit an infield single to third. Husson sent Bowdoin down 1-2-3 in the ninth inning, and had the winning run at second base in the bottom half with one out with a chance to walk it off but Warren and Jackson Curtis both struckout to send it to the 10th. Murray homered with two outs in that 10th inning off Alex Smith to provide the game winner. The Eagles loaded the bases after two were out in their last at bat drawing three walks, but Keegan Cyr (Bangor) grounded into a fielders choice to end it.
Holmes had two hits and two RBI in the loss for Husson. Smith (2-1) was tagged with the loss in relief. Chris Lusignan started on the hill and allowed two earned runs on four hits in 3.1 innings. Four Eagles relievers combined to work the final 6.2 innings giving up just one run on two hits. Luca McKerley Coronado was very good for Bowdoin on the mound in the no-decision, as he fired 6.0 innings allowing just one unearned run on two hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Will Bordes (3-0) picked up the victory in relief. The Polar Bears, who were ranked #23 in the Division III Poll last week and received votes in the top 25 this week, improve to 22-9 on the season.
Husson is now 17-10 overall. The Eagles play another non-conference game on the road at Bates College on Wednesday afternoon, before taking their 10-0 North Atlantic Conference record into a four game home league series vs Thomas College with doubleheaders on Saturday and Sunday. Saturday is Senior Day at the Winkin Complex.
