The Maine Maritime Academy men’s and women’s lacrosse teams will both be hosting Husson this weekend in the North Atlantic Conference postseason. The Mariners men meet the Eagles Saturday at 2 p.m in Castine in the league semifinals, while the Mariners women host the Eagles in the conference championship match at 7 p.m. Saturday.
The men’s semifinal will pit #1 Maine Maritime and #4 Husson. The Mariners went unbeaten in the NAC, and beat the Eagles 18-9 in the lone regular season meeting on April 16th. Maine Maritime is led by senior Brendan Reddington (25 goals, 45 assists), and sophomore goalie Andrew Noyes (Falmouth) who has started 10 of the 13 games. Junior Kiernan Field has had a huge season with 64 goals and 19 assists in 15 games for Husson. Sophomore AJ Torres has started in net in eight of the 15 Eagles games. SUNY Delhi and Thomas College are the #2 and #3 seeds respectively and will meet in Saturday’s second semifinal matchup.
The women’s final has #1 Maine Maritime Academy against #2 Husson. Only the top two teams make the postseason in NAC women’s lacrosse in a one game championship format. The Mariners earned the home field by going a program best 12-1 (6-0 in the conference), and are led by senior Hazel Stoddard (Thornton Academy) who in 13 games has scored 53 goals and dished out 34 assists. Junior Ella Bowes has started all 13 games in net. Maine Maritime beat Husson twice in the regular season 11-10 and 24-13. Junior Averi Baker (Hall-Dale) leads the Eagles in scoring with 31 goals and 18 assists, while Emma Beggz has started 12 of their 13 games in goal.
