Douin powers USM baseball to a sweep in regular season finales

The University of Southern Maine baseball team finished off their regular season on Friday with a home sweep over Western Connecticut State in Gorham 13-1 and 13-0. The Huskies are riding a nine-game win streak heading into the postseason.

Kyle Douin (Cony) had himself quite the day to help power USM. Douin had a solo homerun, an RBI double, and a grandslam going 3-3 at the plate with six RBI in game one. He hit another solo shot in the second game for the only run the Huskies needed. Colin McDonald (Gorham) improved to 4-2 with the pitching victory in game one, while Lucas Francis (Lisbon) went to 4-3 with the game two win on the hill. Douin is hitting .380 on the season with seven homeruns and 40 RBI, while slugging .642 and has an OPS of 1.145. He is also 1-0 in six appearances on the mound.

USM (20-17, 11-5 in the Little East Conference) will be the #4 seed in the league tournament that begins on Wednesday at Keene State when they take on #3 Eastern Connecticut State at 2 p.m.
