The University of Maine softball team was no-hit on Saturday afternoon in a 10-0 five inning mercy rule loss to Bryant University in America East action at the Pierre & Catherine Labat Softball Complex in Orono. The game was the regular season finale for both teams.
The Bulldogs broke the game open with four runs in the third inning and six more in the fourth to take three of the four games in the series. Hannah Cochran and Sam Rowher had two hits each, while Meaghan Houk drove in four runs. Freshman Maddy Wachter (8-7) walked three and struckout five in her 5.0 inning no-hitter. Bryant finishes the regular season with a record of 18-30 and 10-10 in America East. Alysen Reith (6-21) lost in the circle for the Black Bears allowing five earned runs on eight hits with two walks and four strikeouts in 3.2 innings. Maine ends up at 11-35 and 3-17 in conference play, and will be the bottom seed (#6) in the league playoffs being held at Binghamton next week.
