Dempsey and Whitten have big first half as Wells has big halftime lead over MDI in class C state football game

Riley Dempsey and Evan Whitten combined for 161 yards on 24 carries in the first half as the Wells Warriors jumped out to a 21-0 halftime lead over the Mount Desert Island in the class C state championship game Saturday afternoon at Fitzpatrick Stadium.

Whitten scored on a 10 yard run with 11 minutes left in the second quarter to give the Warriors a 7-0 lead. Owen Berry scored on a one yard run as Wells made it 14-0 lead with 3:22 left in the second quarter. Both those scoring drives were eight plays.

The final score of the half came on a Michael Wrigley 40 yard interception return for a touchdown late in the half.  Whitten has 86 yards on 12 carries, while Dempsey has 75 yards on 12 carries. Wells has 184 total yards in the half, while MDI has 20. For live in game updates click here.
