Sarah Wilkins fired another complete game in the circle on Wednesday afternoon at the USCAA Small College Softball World Series, as #4 Southern Maine Community College moved into the championship round with a 1-0 victory over #2 Florida National in Dubois, Pennsylvania.
Delanie Perry started the only scoring on the day, as she doubled with two outs in the top of the first inning. Emily Hutchins (Kennebunk) followed with an RBI single up the middle for the game winner. Wilkins (15-4) allowed seven hits in earning the victory but didn’t walk anyone and struckout three in the 70-pitch complete game shutout. Cameron Crerar and Hutchins had two hits a piece for SMCC (31-6), who has now won 23 straight games. In the World Series, Wilkins has pitched three straight complete games allowing a total of three earned runs in 21.0 innings while walking six and striking out 25. The Seawolves now have the upperhand on moving into the championship round as they will have a rematch with Florida National (26-28) on Thursday at 12 p.m. They need one win out of a possible two games to win the USCAA National Title. FNU will need to win two games in a row to capture the championship. They fought off elimination by defeating Carlow University 9-3 later on Wednesday evening in an elimination contest.
