Caleb Leys wins America East Pitcher of the Year

Maine junior starting pitcher Caleb Leys took home the America East Pitcher of the Year, as the league announced their All-Conference Awards on Tuesday. Leys is the first Black Bear to win that award since Nicholas Sinacola did so in 2021.

Leys overall for the season has a 5-1 record and a 2.44 earned run average, but went 5-0 in America East play with a miniscule ERA of 1.10. In his eight conference starts, the lefthander has only allowed five earned runs with 50 strikeouts in 41 innings. Leys also joins the All-Conference First Team with junior outfielder Brody Rasmussen. Junior pitcher Gianni Gambardella, senior infielder Myles Sargent, and freshman infielder Evan Menzel were named to the second team. Menzel was also placed on the All-Rookie Team with Aidan Bardi.

Maine (20-30, 13-11 America East), who lost eight of their final nine games overall including five of six in conference action, will host the league tournament at Mahaney Diamond in Orono and opens play in a single elimination contest against Albany on Wednesday afternoon at 1 p.m.
