Day 2 recaps from the America East Baseball Tournament at Mahaney Diamond in Orono on Thursday:
#5 Albany 11, #1 Bryant 6- The Great Danes continued their late season run by knocking off the top seeded defending league champions. Albany (22-30) pounded out 13 hits, with Levi McAllister providing the game winner with a two-run homerun in the sixth inning. He had three hits and drove in five runs. Jared Toby added two hits and four RBI along with a homer. Aidan Gelbsman (1-1) pitched 6.0 innings to get the win giving up four runs on four hits while walking four and striking out six. Alex Enea picked up his third save of the season in firing the final 3.0 innings. The Great Danes are 9-3 in their last 12 games overall.
#3 Binghamton 15, #2 NJIT 10- The Bearcats (27-23) scored five runs in the top of the first inning highlighted by a grandslam from Zack Kent in never trailing against the Highlanders. Matt Bolton had five hits, while Kent and Freddy Forgione both drove in five runs. Forgione also homered in the victory. Brady Lesiak (2-1) would earn the win on the mound in relief.
#1 Bryant 4, #2 NJIT 1 (elimination game)- The defending champs stayed alive for another day, as a sacrifice bunt in the second inning by Charlie Saul scored Brandyn Durand with the eventual game winner to eliminate NJIT. Four different Bulldogs had one RBI each, and Owen Birchard (2-0) earned the win in relief pitching 2.1 scoreless innings allowing three hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Landon White got his seventh save. Cole Campbell had two hits for the Highlanders, and MT Morrissey (6-6) took the loss on the hill giving up three earned runs on five hits with four walks and eight strikeouts in 7.0 innings. NJIT ends their season with a record of 27-26.
