Douin hits a grandslam and drives in five, as Cony softball pulls away from PI in a Class B softball prelim

Kya Douin hit a grandslam and drove in five runs on Monday afternoon, as the Cony Rams pulled away for an 18-11 Class B softball preliminary playoff win over Presque Isle in a game played in Augusta.

The #9 Wildcats led 6-5 after two innings, before the Rams took the lead for good with a six-run third inning. Presque Isle did cut an 11-6 deficit to 12-11 in the fifth inning, but Cony put up another six-run spot in the last half of the frame including the grandslam by Douin to put it away.

Khloe Price added two hits, two steals, two runs scored, and three RBI in the Rams win. Olivia Duplessis had three RBI, while Suri Ramkissoon (three hits, two steals, four runs) and Jieselle Mills (two hits, three runs) contributed two RBI each. Caelyn Lebel chipped in two hits and two runs scored. Duplessis pitched a complete game in the circle allowing six earned runs on nine hits with five walks and seven strikeouts. The Wildcats were led by Peyton Jennings who knocked in three runs. Peyton Boinske and Olivia Locke had two hits each. Boinske scored four runs and stole three bases, and Astra Laughton came across to score three times. Laughton took the pitching loss giving up four earned runs on nine hits with eight walks and three strikeouts in 5.2 innings. Presque Isle ends their season at 8-9. Cony is now 10-7 and will travel to #1 Hermon for a quarterfinal matchup on Thursday at 4 p.m.
