In a classic at Coffin Field on Thursday night, Brewer scored two runs in the bottom of the seventh inning for a 6-5 walk-off victory over Hampden Academy in a Class A softball quarterfinal.
The #3 Witches had put up four runs in the bottom of the third inning to take a 4-0 lead. Jillian Ford grounded out for a RBI, Olivia Bragdon hit a two-run single, and Bragdon would also end up scoring a little later on a wild pitch. The Broncos though came storming back. In the fifth, Kiera Gabric scored on a wild pitch. During the same at bat, Cat Facchini hit a two-run homerun to centerfield to cut it to 4-3. The visitors then took their first lead in the seventh when Aubrey Shaw lined a two-run single to left. Sarah Snowdeal began the Brewer rally in the last half of the inning by working a one out walk. Paige Oakes then tripled to right to score Snowdeal to tie it. With Jordin Williams batting, Oakes would get a good read on a wild pitch and would come across the plate to end it in walk-off fashion.
Bragdon had two RBI to lead Brewer. Ford and Oakes knocked in a run each, while Oakes scored twice. Sara Young earned the win in the circle going the distance allowing five runs on eight hits with one walk and three strikeouts. Shaw had three hits and two RBI to lead #6 Hampden Academy. Facchini also knocked in two with her homerun. Gabric and Lolah Cowing contributed two hits each, with Gabric also scoring twice. Facchini also went the complete game in the circle giving up six runs (five earned) on four hits with three walks and six strikeouts. The Broncos end their season at 9-8. The Witches, now 12-5, will host #7 Edward Little in a semifinal game on Saturday at 12 p.m.
