Bangor slips past Augusta for their third straight win in GNCBL action

The Bangor Babes blew a pair of three run leads on Thursday night, but would score twice in the bottom of the seventh inning to pick up their third straight victory 8-7 over the Augusta Surgin’ Sturgeon in a Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League game played at the Winkin Complex in Bangor.

Bangor (3-1) led 5-2 and 6-3, before Augusta erupted to put up four runs in the top the seventh inning to take a 7-6 advantage. The Babes took back the lead for good in the bottom half of the frame on a RBI fielders choice by Brendan Mahaney, and Joseph Wellman-Clouse was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded that scored Colton Trisch and proved to be the game winning run.

Chris Gaudio led the way for the defending league champs with two hits, two RBI, and two runs scored. Logan Keller added two hits and one RBI. Brody Walsh pitched the first 4.0 innings on the mound in a no-decision. Matthew Haney got the win by firing 1.1 scoreless frames, and Noah Hurd kept his earned run average at 0.00 by picking up his first GNCBL save in the ninth allowing two hits and striking out two. Davis Kibler and Santiago Sanchez each had three hits for Augusta, with Sanchez knocking in two runs. Kyle Palleschi (Monmouth Academy, Bard College) would suffer the pitching defeat in relief giving up three runs in 3.0 innings. The Surgin’ Sturgeon fall to 2-4. After splitting the first two games head to head in Bangor, the Babes will head to Augusta on Sunday for the third matchup between the teams at Morton Field with a scheduled 4 p.m. first pitch.
