The Bangor Babes got four RBI from Ayden Hogan, and three from Noah Simpson on Thursday night in crushing the first place Waterville Woodworkers 14-4 by mercy in seven innings in a Greater Northeast Collegiate Baseball League game played at the Winkin Complex on the campus of Husson University.
Bangor (6-4) took advantage of nine total walks and scored three times in each of the first two innings in building their lead to as much as 9-0. A three-run double by Simpson (Blinn College- Texas) in the second turned out to be the game winner. Christopher Gaudio (Rogers State University- Oklahoma) in the meantime did his thing on the mound for the hosts. The righthander fired a perfect 4.0 innings with five strikeouts to pick up the win. Gaudio earned the Bangor Babes Player of the Game. Hogan (Chowan University- North Carolina) had two hits to go along with his four RBI. Brendan Mahaney (Old Town High, CMCC) was 3-3 with a RBI and scored two runs. Simpson would also walk twice and score two runs to add to his three-run double. Bodie Bishop (Hampden Academy, USM) contributed three runs, while Peter Keblinsky (Ellsworth High, USM) and Logan Keller (Montana State) would both score twice.
Austin Buck (University of Wisconsin-Eau Claire) knocked in three runs for Waterville, while Stan Spooner (Mt. Ararat, UMF) gave up six runs on seven hits in 3.1 innings in taking the pitching loss. The Woodworkers (9-5) have a two game lead over the Babes for first place in the Northern Division, but also have four games in hand. Bangor will return to action on Sunday when they play a road game at Morton Field in Augusta against the Surgin’ Sturgeon beginning at 4 p.m.
