Central Maine and Downeast split a Senior Legion Baseball doubleheader

The Downeast Captains and Central Maine Hurricanes split a doubleheader on Tuesday evening in Senior Legion baseball action played at Colby College.

The Captains took game one 5-2, helped by a three-run second inning. Trevor Shimabukuro provided the three runs by smacking a two-run double, and would come across to score on the same play on an error. Shimabukuro had two hits, two RBI, and scored twice. He also did it with his arm on the mound by picking up the win allowing one earned run on four hits with three walks and 10 strikeouts in 6.1 innings of work. Ty Bernier led the Hurricanes with two hits and one RBI.

Central Maine (5-6) returned the favor with a 5-2 victory in game two to split the doubleheader. The Hurricanes used their own three-run second inning to get off to a 4-0 lead. Bernier had two hits, one RBI, and scored twice. Ben Foster went the distance on the hill giving up two runs on four hits with three walks and seven strikeouts. Armando Absalom had a hit and two RBI for Downeast (5-7).
