BANGOR- Matt Gale did it with his arm and his bat on Monday afternoon, in leading Oxford (Massachusetts) to a 7-2 win over Dubois (Pennsylvania) in the championship round of the Senior Little League Baseball East Regional Tournament at Mansfield Stadium. After avoiding elimination from the regional with a 12-1 win over Delaware on Monday morning, Oxford now forces a single winner take all game for the title on Tuesday morning.
Oxford scored five times in the bottom of the third inning to snap a scoreless tie and claim the victory over Dubois. Mason Foskett singled to center to drive in the first run after the ball popped out of the glove on an attempted diving catch by Pennsylvania centerfielder Nate Witherite. Gale followed that with what turned to be the game winning two-run single, before Andy Collins lined a two-run inside the park homerun past another diving attempt by Witherite. Gale took care of the rest on the mound to earn the win, firing 6+ innings leaving due to pitch count after facing one batter in the seventh. He was charged with two runs on three hits while walking four and striking out four. Foskett and Collins both had two hits, with Collins finishing with three RBI and Foskett had two. Brody Knouse had two hits for Dubois (PA), while London Duncan and Wes Clyde had one RBI each. Evan Burton gave up seven runs on nine hits with three walks and four strikeouts in 5.0 innings on the hill in the loss for Dubois.
The winner take all East Regional Championship game will start at 10 a.m. on Tuesday, July 22 at Mansfield Stadium. The victor of that contest will advance to the Senior Little League World Series in Easley, South Carolina that begins on Saturday, July 26th.
