Old Town/Orono drops a heartbreaker at American Junior Legion Baseball Northeast Regional

The Old Town/Orono Twins dropped a heartbreaker on Friday night, after an incredible eight run rally in the seventh inning to tie the game only to see host Quincy Morrisette Post 294 walk it off in eight innings 14-13 in the Northeast Regional of American Junior Legion Baseball played in Quincy, Massachusetts.

Old Town/Orono picked up where they left off in the State of Maine title game, jumping on the hosts for an early 4-1 lead after an inning and a half. That was helped by RBI hits from Owen Wilson and Cayden Campagna in the first, along with two errors in the second. Quincy Morrisette scored six times in the last of the second inning and looked as if they had taken control 7-4, later building that advantage to 13-5 which is where it stood entering the top of the seventh. But the Twins had one last gasp. Five hits and five walks led to eight runs to tie it 13-13, with the final runs scored on a two-run infield single to deep short by Wilson. Morrisette had a chance in the bottom of the inning loading the bases with one out, but Old Town/Orono got out of it. The Twins went in order in the top of the eighth, and had retired the first two batters in the last half of the frame. But a two out walk, an error, and then a game winning walkoff RBI single by Cole Doyle to centerfield ended it.

Wilson sparked Old Town/Orono with three hits, four RBI, and also scored two runs. Carter Osnoe added two hits, two RBI, and also came across to score twice. Michael Carroll suffered the pitching loss in relief allowing one run (none earned) on two hits with three walks over the final 1.2 innings. Doyle, Patrick Hoff, Kevin Greene, and Jake Figmic drove in three runs each for Quincy Morrisette. The Twins (15-5) will play a consolation game to end their season on Saturday afternoon against Connecticut State Champion Waterford Post 161 at 1 p.m.
