In North Andover, Massachusetts- Senior forward Julie Lossius scored a goal early in the second half on Thursday afternoon, in leading the Maine women’s soccer team to their first win of the 2025 season with a 3-2 non-conference victory over Merrimack College.
The Black Bears took a 2-0 first half lead, starting with a tally from Meghan Bernetti off an assist from Victoria Dungey in the 18th minute. It was the first career collegiate goal for Bernetti, who spent her first two years at Campbell University. Maine got a break just 1:07 after that goal, when Merrimack mistakenly put one in their own net in trying to clear a rebound to extend the advantage to a pair. The Warriors (1-2-1) fought back though to tie it before intermission on goals by Maddie Eddy and Lily Cook in the 33rd and 41st minute respectively. Eddy also assisted on the Cook marker. The visitors were able to pull it out however on the game winner by Lossius 5:31 into the second half unassisted. Lossius had seven shots on the day (six on goal) to lead her team, while substitute Emma Nicholson also got off four shots (three on goal). Grace Wilson made four saves in net in the victory, as Maine outshot Merrimack 21-8 (15-6 on goal). The Black Bears are now 1-2 and will play in West Point, NY against Army on Sunday at 11 a.m.
