Colby and Bates football win season opening NESCAC games, UNE moves to 2-0 in non-conference

Colby and Bates College football both won their season and conference openers on Saturday afternoon in the NESCAC, while Bowdoin dropped theirs. The University of New England moved to 2-0 with a dominant non-conference victory over WPI. Here are the results/game notes-

 

-Trinity 6 @ Colby (1-0, 1-0 NESCAC) 13

*Defensive lineman Montrail Holmes had the game winning 8-yard TD reception in the third quarter for the Mules

 

-Amherst 23 @ Bates (1-0, 1-0 in NESCAC) 26 in double overtime

*Bobcats rallied from down 23-7 after three quarters to tie it on a 35-yard TD pass from Jack Perry to Quinn Carver late in the fourth quarter. Marcus Ruiz wins it for the Bobcats with a 23-yard field goal in the second OT

 

-Tufts 13 @ Bowdoin (0-1, 0-1 NESCAC) 0

*Chartellis Reec with a 7-yard first quarter touchdown run was the only score needed for the Jumbos

 

-Worcester Polytechnic Institute 3 at University of New England (2-0) 41

*Chris Lang 28-41 passing, 327 yards, two TD, two INT. Austin Ingersoll six carries for 111 yards and one TD. John Germano 11 catches for 109 yards
